Cars that I have had during my life

Here are some details of the cars that I have had during my life to date.

The first car I ever had was a :

Ford Anglia 105E:

  • Engine : 997 cc Side Valve
  • Gearbox: Manual 3 speed + reverse
  • Seats : 4
  • Colour : White
  • Year : 1968
  • Comment: Paid just over 300 GBP for it in 1972. I will never forget this little car. Piston blew up and through the head. Grandpa and I took the engine out one morning at 9 am, went and got 4 new pistons, rings, little and big ends, and a new head, fitted them and had it running again by 4 pm. Blew up that engine and fitted a Ford Classic 1340 cc engine instead, it fitted without any modifications. Fitted wide wheels, extended arches and racing steering wheel. Sold it twp years later for more than I paid for it.

Then there was the

Austin 1800:

  • Engine : 1798 cc Overhead Valve
  • Gearbox: Manual 3 speed + reverse
  • Seats : 5
  • Colour : Green roof and cream body
  • Year : 1973
  • Comment: Ex Coppers car from near where I lived. Bench seat in the front (very useful!). The car was built like a tank. Had a trailer weighing 2 Tons on the back one day, with over a Ton of stuff on it and didn't even feel like it was there, pulled it no probs. Hit a car head on on a windy country road, and the insurance wrote it off.

Then there was the

Ford Capri 1300 GT XLR:

  • Engine : 1297 cc Overhead Valve
  • Gearbox: Manual 4 speed + reverse
  • Seats : 5
  • Colour : Black roof and white body
  • Year : 1974
  • Comment: Great little motor, not a lot of room in the back, but in those days was a Top Wanted car, turned a few heads in those days!

Then there was the
Humber Sceptre:

  • Engine : 1998 cc Overhead Valve
  • Gearbox: Manual 4 speed + overdrive + reverse
  • Seats : 5
  • Colour : Burgundy
  • Year : 1977
  • Comment: Really luxurious ride for a car of it's day. The overdrive, which you could click in and out in 3rd or 4th really slowed down the revs and reduced fuel consumption.

  • Engine : 2997 cc Overhead Valve
  • Gearbox: Automatic 3 speed + reverse
  • Seats : 5

  • Year : 1984
  • Comment: This was a car a mile above the rest. Heated Seats, Electric Seats, Fuel Computer, Electric Mirrors, Heated Mirrors, Electric Sunroof, Wooden Dashboard and trims, Alloy Wheels, Air Con and so much more. In it's day, very few cars had any of these features. Because mine was almost black in colour, very long being an estate, and chrome roof bars, people used to call it the 'Hearse'. 😦

Then there was the

Peugeot 406 Executive 2.0 Diesel:

  • Engine : 1997 cc Diesel
  • Gearbox: Manual 5 speed + reverse
  • Seats : 5
  • Colour : Green body
  • Year : 2001
  • Comment: A truly luxurious model from Peugeot, Leather everything, heated seats, electric seats, electric, heated and remote folding mirrors. Sun Roof, Air Con, and built in Sat Nav. Automatic wipers that sensed when it was raining and started automatically. Headlights that sensed when it was dull and came on automatically even in tunnels. So many other things too. Regretted having to part with this one.

Then there was the

Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 4×4 Diesel:

  • Engine : 1998 cc Diesel
  • Gearbox: Manual 10 speed + 2 reverse
  • Seats : 5
  • Colour : Silver body
  • Year : 2004
  • Comment: A great car, the only problem was that you could not use the 4×4 if you wanted to turn corners more than about 10 degrees as the transmission wouldn't take it! Hoever, it would pull almost anything, our twin axle caravan (laden) weighed almost 1.5 Tons, but this car pulled it up a 1 in 7 hill without too much fuss.

Then there was the

Kia Sedona 2.9 MPV Diesel:

  • Engine : 2898 cc Diesel
  • Gearbox: Manual 5 speed + reverse
  • Seats : 7
  • Colour : Black body
  • Year : 2006
  • Comment: If you want a 7 seat people carrier with lots of room inside, don't buy the later models, try and pick up one of these. Armchair style seating in the first two rows, splitable third row. All three rows of seats recline, and rows two and three can be removed easily with a couple of clicks. Sliding rear doors on both sides. The powerful 2.9 litre Diesel engine is both economical and a great work horse. Didn't even know the caravan was there when it was attached.

Then there was the

Rolls Royce Silver Shadow:

  • Engine : 6998 cc Petrol V8
  • Gearbox: Auto 4 speed + reverse
  • Seats : 5
  • Colour : Blue body
  • Year : 1988
  • Comment: All of my life I had said that one day I would own my dream car, a Rolls Royce. Just a few months before we moved to Thailand I swapped the Sedona for this baby. What can I say, dream fulfilled! The ride was out of this world, the leather as good as the day it was fitted. The almost 7 litre engine purred, but if you put your foot down the car almost took off. Bad points? Only did 12 miles to the gallon!

And Finally the current vehicle

Toyota Fortuner 3.0 D4D 4×4:

  • Engine : 2998 cc Diesel
  • Gearbox: Auto 12 speed + 3 reverse
  • Seats : 7
  • Colour : Black body
  • Year : 2008
  • Comment: Great motor, lot's of room for up to 7 people. Rearmost seats fold up to increase luggage area. 3 drive options, rear wheel only, four wheel low and high. Leather seats. No heater (don't need heaters here). Had some extras added: Fly catcher, TV/Video/SD/USB/Radio with bluetooth phone and music play, front and rear skirts, window wind shields and others. Drives great and very economical for a 3 litre
