River Kwai Bridge

River Kwai Bridge

North West of Bangkok and not far from the Tiger Temple is the Bridge on the River Kwai, but this is not really the bridge in the movie, nor is it the real River Kwai.

The real bridge was destroyed in the war, but following the movie and the volume of farangs wanting to see the Bridge on the River Kwai, some astute Thai officials saw a great opportunity, they had another bridge that was built during the war, and they repaired the spans. The stretch of river that it crossed they renamed to the River Kwai, and this bridge became the Bridge on the River Kwai.

A visitor centre was set up and many souvenirs and other gifts are now available at this Bridge on the River Kwai.

You can take a boat trip along the river and visit the monkey sanctuary, the Big Buddha, and the Temple in the Hill, while you are there.
