Spent a few days in Khanom just North about 180km from where we live, just north east of Nakhon Si Thammarat. It was incredible, our beach side room was less than 15 GBP per night (900 bahts). Beach was soft and fine sand and the sea was so clear you could see to the bottom, and just like walking into a warm bath.
There was not many people there as we went mid week, so we virtually had the place to ourselves. Would recommend to anyone, a cool place to chill out.
Went into the town one evening to a restaurant run by a German Guy, on his own. Fantastic steaks (Australian beef, Thai beef is very strong and a bit tough).
